Politics has
been negative
10-Aug-04, Windsor Observer.
"It has been a negative time in
politics of late and the Conservative Party is partly to
blame.
There is the old axiom that ‘Governments lose elections’.
And on its record, this current Government deserves to lose.
More money than ever is taken from us in taxation of the
most ingenious kind; but there is little corresponding
improvement in public services.
From the hundreds of people I speak with on the doorsteps
in Windsor, I know that Conservative policies resonate with
people. I’ve had traditional Labour and Liberal voters
espousing them without knowing it.
But non-core Conservative voters have found it hard to
embrace the party emotionally, especially while we’ve been
so negative about the current Government.
With Michael Howard’s key note speech on Tuesday, I am
delighted the campaign is changing to a positive one.
Over the upcoming weeks and months we will be painting a
clear picture of an alternative future for Britain.
It is a vision of ‘big’ people in control of their lives,
with ‘small’ Government supporting them. It is a vision of
streets free from the fear of crime. It is a vision of a
strong, proud, vibrant and flexible Britain in control of
its own destiny.
Politics has been negative; time to enjoy the positive." |
