Aviation in the
South East
22-Jun-05, Westminster Hall Debate.
To John Randall MP
"Given the self-evident fact that it is the
noise of an aircraft on the ground that hits
the eardrums of residents, disturbs them and
causes stress and lack of sleep, does my
hon. Friend think that it might be sensible
to recognise the actual noise of an aircraft
on the ground, rather than the theoretical
noise that it makes in the factories when it
is being manufactured?"
To Laura Moffatt MP
"Does the hon. Lady accept that, with the
projected expansion in air travel - not only
in the south-east, but throughout the
country - it will be virtually impossible to
meet the 2020 and 2050 Kyoto targets for the
reduction of emissions in greenhouse gases?"
To Justine Greening, MP
"Does my hon. Friend agree that it is
one noisy aircraft, at night or during the day, that
disturbs people? That certainly seems to be the case in
Datchet, Old Windsor, Wraysbury, Poyle and Colnbrook. Does
my hon. Friend think that we should consider measures that
take into account a single noisy aircraft rather than the
general noise quotients, which seem to hide a multitude of
sins?"

I
believe...
People are happier when making their own decisions.
Business is the engine of the economy that generates our
jobs, incomes and taxes.
Government should not interfere in our lives beyond
protecting and defending us.
