2011 turned out to be a tough year and as we enter 2012 things remain uncertain. Unemployment, immigration, banking reforms and Britain’s position in Europe remain major worries for many of us. Everyone is affected by the decisions being made by the Coalition Government and my postbag has been full over the past twelve months with residents trying to get guidance and information or simply bringing their own personal situation to my attention.
But despite the uncertainty, I am still constantly overwhelmed by people’s ability to help others and give their time and energy to local projects aimed at the more vulnerable in society. This was highlighted perfectly when I had the privilege of switching on the Christmas lights in Datchet last month. Once again it proved to be a fantastic event, with the local families coming together both to help raise the money needed for the Royal British Legion and to socialise with neighbours and friends.
Wherever I am in the constituency, I meet with residents and business men and women who are putting aside their own difficulties and dedicating their time to helping those less fortunate.
I am proud to represent such an active constituency and it is this sense of togetherness that we must all remember as we enter 2012.
You have my very best wishes for a prosperous and successful 2012.
