As a resident of Old Windsor, I know firsthand how irritating and draining it is to be continually disturbed by noisy aircraft, especially in the early hours. So I was delighted last year when the Coalition announced it would stop the proposal of a third runway at Heathrow.
But that is not the end of the fight to protect residents who live under flight paths. Sadly the City of London Corporation has now called for runway alteration to be scrapped, despite the Government making it clear that the current runway practice would continue.
At the moment planes switch runways at 3pm each day when on westerly operations and this provides some relief to people living to the west and south of the airport. If this were to be scrapped it could mean residents would be subject to non-stop noise throughout the day.
I am very concerned about this recent development and I am therefore pleased that
the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, along with other members of the 2M Group, have spoken of their concern at the possible consequences this could have.
The Royal Borough has been resolute in fighting for runway alternation to be extended rather than abandoned and I am determined to do all I can to help them protect local residents and oppose any policies that may adversely affect them.
